Mongsengee in Jeju

A 3-day visit to Mongsengee, a studio that specializes in persimmon dyeing, which is native to Jeju culture. Located on the northwest end of the island, it is near Hallim, and operated by Yang Soon Ja, a visionary designer and teacher. She bought a school that had been vacated due to a lack of students, and renovated it to house an enormous line of products of naturally-dyed fabric, which is also done on the premises. The studio includes display space, a store, a teaching facility, a sewing studio, storerooms, dyeing facilities, and an expansive soccer field used to dry and sun fabric.
